One of our favorite places to visit when we are in the Albuquerque area is the Sandia Peak Tramway. We took the tram up and then spent some time just enjoying the beauty of the panoramic landscape below us. We always seem to meet other travelers when we are out and about exploring, and this time was no exception. While up at the top, we met 2 hikers that had hiked the 9 ½ mile trail up to the top, who were planning to take the tram back down to the Visitors Center. While we love to hike, we were happy to take the tram both ways.
A Little About the Tramway Experience
The Sandia Peak Tramway is an unforgettable aerial adventure. The tram provides scenic views of the Sandia Mountains, thrilling experiences, and a connection to nature that leaves an indelible mark on all who take the journey. The summit area at the top has many different trails for hiking at various skill levels. It is also a haven for those who wish to just be in nature and enjoy taking photos of the surrounding landscape, mountain ranges and expansive skyline.
The Tram offers different experiences throughout the seasons, so depending on the time of year you visit, you will find the scenery different and beautiful in its own way. In the fall, the colors offer their own special beauty and for those who love snow and skiing, winter offers an opportunity for them to ski.
Good To Know
It is a good idea to check the tramways website for ticket information and operating hours and seasonal closures. They suggest planning. It is a good idea to make sure you have a hoodie or jacket as it is cool at the top and to make sure you have water. There is a restaurant at the top and a Visitors Center at the bottom, and of course restrooms in both areas.
The Sandia Peak Tramway offers an outdoor adventure and breathtaking views. It is a must-have experience for those who wish to connect with the natural world.
